Remove Photo Metadata & Location
Photos can reveal where you live and when you were there. Check what your pictures give away, then strip the metadata before you post, sell or send them. It all happens on your device.
Add photos to see the hidden information they carry, such as where and when they were taken. You get clean copies straight away. JPG, PNG and WebP images are not re-compressed, so their quality stays exactly the same.
How to remove location and EXIF data from photos
- 1Choose your photos, or drag them onto the page. Any number works.
- 2Each photo shows what it contains. A red “Location found” label means it has GPS coordinates.
- 3The cleaned copies are ready straight away; open “Show all fields” to see exactly what was removed.
- 4Download the clean photos one by one, or all together as a ZIP.
What your photos reveal, and how this removes it
Phones and cameras store extra information inside every photo, called EXIF metadata. It usually includes the exact GPS location where the photo was taken, the date and time to the second, the phone or camera model and its settings, and sometimes a serial number or the owner’s name. Post a photo taken at home and anyone who downloads the original file may be able to find your address.
For JPG, PNG and WebP images, this tool cuts the metadata blocks out of the file without decoding and re-saving the picture, so the image is bit-for-bit identical and there is no loss of quality. The color profile is kept so colors look the same, and so is the rotation flag, so photos taken sideways stay the right way up. After cleaning, each file is checked again to confirm nothing is left.
HEIC, AVIF and other formats can’t be edited this way in a browser, so they are saved again without metadata: HEIC photos become high-quality JPGs. Many social networks strip metadata when you upload, but messaging apps, email, cloud links, marketplaces and forums often pass the original file on untouched.

Frequently asked questions
Does removing metadata reduce photo quality?
Not for JPG, PNG and WebP: only the metadata blocks are removed and the image data is left exactly as it was. HEIC and AVIF photos are saved again at high quality, which is visually identical but not bit-for-bit the same.
How do I remove the location from a photo on iPhone?
Open this page in Safari, tap “Choose images” and pick the photos. Download the cleaned copies and share those. iPhones can also leave out the location when sharing: tap “Options” at the top of the share sheet and turn off “Location”.
What exactly is removed?
EXIF (including GPS, dates, camera and lens details, serial numbers and the embedded thumbnail), XMP and IPTC data, comments, and PNG and WebP text and EXIF blocks. Only what affects how the picture looks is kept, such as the color profile and the orientation.
Can I see the metadata without removing it?
Yes. Every photo you add lists what it contains, and nothing changes on your device: the cleaned copies are new files that only exist when you download them. Your original photos are left untouched.
Are my photos uploaded anywhere?
No. Everything runs inside your web browser using WebAssembly. Your photos never leave your device, and we never see them.
Is there a limit on the number or size of images?
No. Add as many as you like. Images are processed a few at a time, so very large batches may take a while on older phones, but there are no limits, watermarks or sign-ups.
Can I use it on my phone?
Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS.
