QR Code & Barcode Scanner

Read a QR code or barcode from a screenshot, a photo or your camera, right in your browser. See a link in full before opening it, and copy Wi-Fi passwords and contacts.

How to scan a QR code from an image

  1. 1Choose a photo or screenshot that shows the code, drag it onto the page, or paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac).
  2. 2Or click “Scan with camera” and point your camera at the code. Allow camera access when your browser asks.
  3. 3See what the code contains. Links are shown in full before you open them, and Wi-Fi networks, contacts, emails and phone numbers are laid out clearly.
  4. 4Copy the text, open the link, or save the contact.

Scan codes on your computer, safely

Phone cameras read QR codes, but codes often arrive on a screen: in an email, a PDF, a screenshot or a photo someone sent you. This scanner reads them from any image, including several codes in one picture, and from a webcam or phone camera too.

It reads QR codes, Micro QR, Data Matrix, Aztec and PDF417 codes, and the common barcodes: EAN-13, EAN-8, UPC-A, UPC-E, Code 128, Code 39, Code 93, Codabar, ITF and GS1 DataBar. When your browser has a built-in barcode reader (Chrome on Android and Mac), it is used first; otherwise the open source ZXing reader runs in your browser, downloaded the first time you scan (about 1 MB).

A QR code is just text, and anyone can print one and stick it over another. Scam codes on parking meters, posters and in emails lead to fake payment and login pages. That’s why links are shown in full instead of opening by themselves: check the address before you open it, and never type a password or card number on a page you reached from an unexpected code.

Frequently asked questions

How do I scan a QR code from a screenshot?

Take the screenshot, then open this page and paste it with Ctrl+V (⌘V on a Mac), or choose the image file. On a phone, choose the screenshot from your photos. What the code contains appears next to the image.

Can I scan a QR code with my laptop’s webcam?

Yes. Click “Scan with camera” and allow camera access. Hold the code steady about 15–30 cm (6–12 in) from the camera, since most webcams can’t focus up close.

Why can’t it find the code in my image?

The code may be too small, blurry, cut off or photographed at a steep angle. Crop the image closer around the code, or take a sharper photo straight on. Very dense QR codes need a high-resolution image.

Is it safe to open a link from a QR code?

Only if you trust where the code came from and the address looks right. Check the domain name carefully, as scam codes often use addresses that look almost like a real company’s.

Are my images or camera video uploaded?

No. Images and camera video are read inside your web browser and never leave your device. Nothing is recorded or stored, and the camera turns off as soon as you stop scanning or leave the page.

Can I use it on my phone?

Yes. It works in any modern browser on Android, iPhone, Windows, Mac, Linux and ChromeOS.
